Prayers and support for people of Japan

We join in prayer for the millions affected by the devastating earthquakes and tsunami in Japan and other Pacific nations. More information can be found through Global Ministries of the United Church of Christ.

Prayer by Taylor Burton-Edwards

God of all compassion,
our hearts and bodies shake
with the earth
and all who dwell upon it.

We cry to you for help
for lives, roads, homes, and livelihoods lost,
and coastal regions washed away
in Japan
and all who this day wait in fear
on other coasts and islands
on an ocean that betrays its name.

Have mercy on them, on us
and all who wait for better words
and help.

We pray in the name of Jesus
who stilled the wind and waves. Amen.

OCC will be taking a collection for the people of Japan as part of (and in addition to) our Lenten One Great Hour of Sharing offering on April 2-3. A special offering envelope will be in the bulletin. If you prefer to give now, Global Ministries is collecting donations for relief efforts. Staff of Lott’s Creek school says thanks

One of our church’s longstanding holiday traditions is to fill Christmas Caring/Sharing Sacks which are distributed to the needy children of Lott’s Creek, Kentucky, in the heart of Appalachia. OCC recently received a newsletter and thank you from the staff of the school.
