More About OCC

Olmsted Community Church has been a faithful part of our area’s history since 1835.  We began as two separate churches, Congregational and Methodist, who merged in 1917 to form Olmsted Community Church.  Our partner denomination in mission and ministry is the United Church of Christ (UCC).

We like to say that no matter who you are, or where life’s journey has taken you, you’re welcome here.  Our members come from many different Christian backgrounds and walks of life.  Our doors and our hearts are open to all.

Our Sunday worship service begins at 10 AM in the Sanctuary. We also offer a Saturday service at 5 PM in the Chapel, located on the lower level.  Attire for our services is generally “business casual”, though you’ll find that some people wear their “Sunday best” and others come in comfy jeans.

The Sacrament of Holy Communion is celebrated the first Sunday of each month and its adjoining Saturday.  We practice open communion: all are welcome at God’s Table.

Our church facilities are fully accessible.  The parking lot entryway includes an elevator, and ramps are available for Sanctuary entry.

During the school year, Sunday School is available for all ages.  Children’s classes meet on Sunday morning during the worship hour at 10 AM.  Children typically attend the beginning of worship in the Sanctuary, then dismiss for Sunday School following the Children’s Sermon.  Adult and youth classes are available at 9 AM on Sundays and at other scheduled times.

Olmsted Community Preschool, our highly accredited preschool program, occupies the lower level of our Education Building.

We’re definitely a seven-days-a-week kind of church.  There are programs and activities taking place all week long, and we open our doors to many support groups and non-profit organizations who work to make our community a better place to live, work, worship and study.

We are governed by a democratic process of congregational meeting.  The Annual Meeting, in which all members have a vote, decides the practices of our church.  Between Annual Meetings, an elected Cabinet, Boards, and Committees provide volunteer leadership, guided by our church’s constitution.

We hope you’ll enjoy checking out many aspects of our ministry highlighted on our website.  To really get to know us, come join us for worship.  You’ll receive a warm and friendly welcome here.
