VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL  2012

JULY 16-20

Operation Overboard – Dare to Go Deep with God! is the theme for this year’s Vacation Bible School – July 16-20. Registration is now open; forms are available outside the main office, during coffee hour and online here.

You can help now by collecting some recyclables – specifically: empty paper towel tubes and discarded DVDs and CDs (we will be covering up any printing). You may bring them to the church any time. A “supplies needed” list will be posted soon. Thank you.

FAMILY EVENTS

It’s important for families to spend time together in a Christian environment, having fun, and getting to know others. Family oriented events take place regularly at Olmsted Community Church, which include the entire faith family–so whether you’re a family of one or ten, there’s a place for you here.  Activities include such things as a movie or game night, bowling, or pot-luck suppers.

ADULT EDUCATION

The Sunday adult classes engages in discussion of the Bible in relation to current events.  The class meets in the Fireside Room at 9:00 AM and welcomes newcomers.

TUESDAY AFTERNOON BIBLE STUDY

Reverend Ron leads a study for adults on Tuesday afternoons at 1:00 PM in the Wilson Room.  The group begins with prayer and has open discussion around the lectionary Scripture readings.  All are welcome.

WOMEN’S STUDIES

Women gather on Tuesday afternoons at 1:00 pm and Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm for an hour of prayer and study.  Tuesday’s group focuses on in-depth Bible study.  The Wednesday evening is generally a book study focusing on contemporary topics.  You’ll be warmly welcomed.

SUNDAY MORNING CHILDREN’S PROGRAM

Infants, Toddlers & Twos — 10:00 AM

Our childcare facility is open to all children up to age 3.  This pre-education program is equipped with age appropriate toys and activities.  It is staffed by loving adults who want to make each child’s first church experience a positive and happy one.  The worship service is piped into the nursery and also in the Quiet Room on the upper level.  The nursery is located on the lower level near the Sanctuary, in the hallway accessed through the Tower Room.  Ushers or church members can direct you.

Three-year-olds through fifth grade

Classes for these ages are held during the 10:00 AM worship service.  Children go with their families to worship and are excused following the “Time for Children” portion of the service.  Kindergarten through 6th graders participate in an innovative rotation of classes.  Traveling to a different “station” each week, students learn important themes and stories of the Bible through art, computer, cookery, games, music, science, story and video.  Three- and four-year-olds learn the same stories as the older children while staying in their own classroom each week.

SUNDAY MORNING YOUTH CLASSES

Sixth and seventh graders begin the Confirmation process during the school year for Bible study and discussion of faith issues.  The class meets during the 10:00 am worship service.

CONFIRMATION STUDIES

Confirmation classes are open to any youth in 8th – 12th grades.  The class is led by the pastor and Christian Educator who guide the students through the essence of Christian beliefs and practices.  The students pair up with adult Faith Partners for mission and outreach projects, and field trips to other faith communities.  For class schedule, please contact Nicki Behr.
